The PittVax team has undertaken influenza immunogenicity studies which vary by vaccine type and target population. The team has compared the immunological response to high dose vaccine vs. standard dose vaccine among frail elderly residents of nursing homes. They have followed a cohort of middle aged and older community dwelling adults for several years, examining immunological response to annual seasonal influenza vaccine. Among this cohort they have examined immunological response to historical influenza vaccine strains.
The PittVax team has undertaken two randomized clinical trials of HPV vaccine comparing the recommended dosing schedule with an alternate schedule among college age women and men. The alternate dosing schedule of 0 months, 2 months and 12 months was non-inferior to the recommended dosing schedule of 0 months, 2 months and 6 months. Another paper was published describing the use of FaceBook® and other social media for recruitment of young men for the study. (See publications tab.)
